Course Information
Description
Gain hands-on, practical experience in one or more phases of the production or live entertainment process. Apply the tools and resources associated with stage technology. Students choose the artistic area of interest and carry out practical exercises in the direct design, build and performance of the process. Students engage in real-time learning that includes facing deadlines, budget constraints and the collaboration that is necessary in a theatre production. 36 hour time requirement.

Course Competencies
  1. Perform with a theatrical production at Madison College or with a separate community or professional theatre
    Assessment Strategies
    Paper, Portfolio, Self-Assessment, and/or Skill Demonstration
    Criteria
    Choose one aspect of a theatrical experience
    Include documented hours (minimum 36 hours)
    Include a clear purpose statement
    Include a reflection of analysis of the target audience
    Describe your adherence to contractually agreed upon criteria
    Use an effective organizational plan
    Include references as support for self-assessment
    Include two or three areas of continued development and a plan for developing the areas
    Written product exhibits effective grammar, punctuation, spelling, and word usage

  2. Perform in a technical capacity with a theatrical production
    Assessment Strategies
    Paper, Portfolio, Self-Assessment, and/or Skill Demonstration
    Criteria
    Include documented hours spent on production
    Include documentation the specific work/tasks done on production
    Include a letter of acknowledgment to confirm your role and work done
    Include a reflection on specific tasks and techniques learned
    Include consideration of future attempts at the same work or production role
    Include a letter of acknowledgment from a lead member of the production team (producer, director, stage manager, designer) if production is beyond Madison College

  3. Analyze functions of roles within a production team
    Assessment Strategies
    Paper, Portfolio, Self-Assessment, and/or Skill Demonstration
    Criteria
    Choose one aspect of a theatrical experience
    Include a summary of functions of core partnerships during production
    Describe the problem solving attempts with members of stage management, design teams, etc.
    Include a reflection on opportunities for collaboration in production

  4. Apply the critical thinking process

    Criteria
    Determine the need and/or question
    Gather information
