Course Information
Description
Introduces therapeutic procedures including arterial puncture, bronchial hygiene, lung expansion therapy, and pulmonary rehabilitation. Emphasis is placed on promotion of evidence-based practice using established clinical practice guidelines and published research for its relevance to patient care.

  1. Perform arterial puncture

  2. Perform airway clearance therapies (e.g. bronchial hygiene)

  5. Adapt therapeutic interventions for delivery in an alternate care setting

  6. Perform 12 lead ECG

  7. Investigate evidence based medicine and respiratory care protocols

    Criteria
    describe the purpose for care protocols
    explain the correlation between evidence based medicine and respiratory care protocols
    apply protocols to patient cases
    provide education about available respiratory care services to the interdisciplinary team
    explain in transitioning care and handoffs

  8. Adapt communication strategies to a diverse patient population
    Assessment Strategies
    through a role play between a respiratory therapist and a patient or by adapting strategies in a written assessment
    by accurately answering questions about the concepts that support this competency in one or more written exams to be scheduled by your instructor at various points throughout this course
    Criteria

    explore cultural identity, language diversity, race, and ethnicity within patient communication scenarios
    change communication strategies in order to adapt to the situation
