Course Information
Description
Exploration of the signs, symptoms, causes, diagnostic data, progression, and treatment of diseases or disorders of the body that affect the respiratory cardiopulmonary system. Emphasis is placed on promotion of evidence-based practice using established clinical practice guidelines and published research for its relevance to patient care.

  1. Evaluate test results of spirometry, lung volumes, and DLCO

  2. Evaluate imaging study results of the chest

    recognize the need for alternative medical imaging procedures (e.g., ultrasonography, CT, echocardiography, ECG, and ventilation/perfusion scan)

    identify and differentiate extraneous objects on the chest film
    identify the presence and position of any artificial airways or catheters

  3. Analyze signs and symptoms, etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment for neoplastic lung diseases/disorders

    educational plan includes but not limited to therapy goals, breathing training, pharmacy, oxygen, secretion management, safety and infection control, homecare and related equipment, vaccinations, smoking/vaping cessation, exercise, nutrition as appropriate
    education plan includes disease/condition management (i.e. asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis,CV and conditions resulting in tracheostomy and/or ventilator dependance)
    educational plan reflects cultural, ADA, gender, age, literacy and socioeconomic status
    educational plan is implemented with a simulated patient
