Description
Emphasis is on shaving and facial services, examine facial hair and skin conditions, identify facial muscles, nerves, and hair growth patterns, demonstrate facial hair removal. Demonstrate effective usage and care of facial hair removal tools and equipment; explain the benefits of facial massage and treatments.

  1. Implement infection control procedures to ensure client and barber shop safety

    Criteria
    Remove hair from tools after each use
    Disinfect tools according to manufacturer's directions after each use
    Sweep hair from station, chair, and floor after each client's service
    Disinfect nonporous surfaces after each client's services

  2. Drape a client for shaving/facial hair services

    Criteria
    Implement safety and sanitation procedures associated with draping a client
    Select most effective cape for shaving/facial hair service
    Place neck protection between the cape and client's neck
    Cape is over the back of the chair
    Client is positioned comfortably and effectively for best results

  3. Use shaving/facial hair service tools

    by demonstrating appropriate tool use

    Basic straight razor shave meets guidelines specified by the instructor

  5. Alter shaving technique to accommodate hair types and growth patterns

    Determine the client's hair and skin condition
    Identify hair types and growth patterns
    Adjust shaving technique to accommodate different hair types and growth patterns
    Shaving technique results in a close, comfortable, and irritation-free shave

  6. Shave to best suit individual facial features and physiology

    Identify hair growth patterns on a face
    Identify key facial structures
    Implement effective techniques used to correct common facial flaws
    Shaving/facial hair design suits the client's facial structure

  7. Create effective facial hair designs (beards, goatees, mustaches, sideburns, etc.)

  8. Perform barber shop facial massage and facial treatment services

    Amount of product applied is evenly applied without need for excessive wiping

    Steam and towel temperature are monitored effectively
