Description
Proper maintenance is essential in order to obtain accurate and repeatable results. This course focuses on keeping machinery in proper working order and maintaining sharp cutting tools. Students learn to troubleshoot problems and to establish routine maintenance procedures.

  1. Sharpen chisels, planes, and card scrapers by hand

    Use honing guides to sharpen edge tools
    Use a slow-speed waterwheel system (Tormek)
    Use a bench grinder to hollow grind edge tools for freehand sharpening
    Use an electric abrasive system (Worksharp)

  2. Identify parts of and maintenance for portable electric motors

    Criteria
    Parts are located correctly: Stator, Rotor, Windings, Commutator, Brushes, Fan
    Power cord is replaced effectively

  3. Evaluate the performance of a table saw
