Description
This course is intended for use by advanced apprentices or journey-level workers to hone their skills in blueprint reading. The training materials consist of blueprints and specifications for typical commercial buildings that have been built in the state of Wisconsin. Emphasis is placed on locating key information relating to the masonry construction of a given building using the actual blueprints and specifications.

  1. Interpret the plans for a large building
    Assessment Strategies
    upon successful completion of a series of worksheets relating to the blueprints and specifications for two large masonry projects.
    Criteria
    you complete all assigned project worksheets to an accuracy of 80%.
    you analyze the blueprints for architectural and structural information.
    you identify key information located in the spec book.
    you recognize the role the spec book plays in the building process, and how it relates to the working drawings.
    you locate key information relating to the masonry construction located in the mechanical drawings.
    you analyze a blueprint for the bearing heights and layout for various structural steel members
    you locate and describe various masonry details on blueprints
