Description
This course is for any student wishing to better perceive and understand the built environment around them and the architecture profession’s influence on that. Through lectures, discussions, videos, and student projects, the course will provide an overview of the fundamental elements of architecture including design, history, terminology, sustainable design, urban design, and landscape architecture.

  1. Recall key aspects of western architectural history

  2. Discuss career possibilities in the architecture, engineering, construction, and design industry

  3. Translate two-dimensional images into three-dimensional physical representation

  4. Research an architectural precedent and produce a unique design based on that precedent

  5. Apply Vitruvius’ theory of firmitas, utilitas, and venustas and critique a unique design based on this rubric

  6. Review and critique the design work of peers

  7. Present an original architectural design to a group
