Course Information
Description
Learners are placed into the appropriate textbook level and develop phonemic awareness and phonics skills. Learners acquire a sight word vocabulary, vocabulary development skills, and comprehension and writing skills. Learners in this course require intensive interaction with and support from their instructor with each lesson, as reading skills flow from oral/aural experience with letter/sound relationships and communication. Tutor involvement under the supervision of the instructor can be valuable in providing support and interaction after the learner has been assessed and placed in the proper textbook level by the instructor. Learning plans are written for the 2001 edition of READING FOR TODAY.Use the LEARNER PLACEMENT FORM (back cover of STUDENT TEXTS 1-3 and p.139 INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE) TO DETERMINE APPROPRIATE TEXT LEVEL/LEARNING PLAN.Refer to the READING FOR TODAY INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE and the TEACHING NOTES AT THE BOTTOM OF PAGES IN THE STUDENT TEXT for GUIDANCE IN TEACHING and for FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES.Use the LEARNER CHECKLIST in the BACK PAGES OF STUDENT TEXT to KEEP TRACK OF STUDENT PROGRESS.
