Description
ESL Intermediate for College Transfer and Technical Careers modules A-D are designed for adult ESL students. Emphasis is on using English in different situations, comprehending a range of written materials, and writing a variety of sentences and paragraphs. Other topics include: seeking clarification, using grammar, employing pronunciation strategies, and completing forms and workplace documents. Students learn computer literacy, critical thinking, and problem solving.

    Use basic ‘be-verb’ grammar

  2. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills related to personal health
    Criteria
    Use vocabulary related to general health
    Listening and Speaking: Reschedule a doctor’s appointment, talk about symptoms, and talk about medical procedures and concerns
    Pronunciation: Use -ed ending, stressed and unstressed syllables
    Grammar: Use participial Adjectives, present perfect continuous, preposition + gerund
    Reading: Identify parts of the body, Immunizations FAQ (Life Skills)
    Writing: Write about an experience with a doctor (Structure-Narration)

  3. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills related to money, banking, and personal finance
    Criteria
    Use vocabulary related to money and banking
    Listening and Speaking: Use bank services and credit cards wisely, budget expenses, ask about appliances and utilities
    Pronunciation: Intonation with if clauses, “to” weak forms “wanna”
    Grammar: Present real conditional sentences, future real conditional sentences, gerunds and infinitives as objects of verbs
    Life Skills: Read utility bills and save money on utilities
    Writing: Write about your financial goals

  4. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills related to government
    Criteria
    Use vocabulary related to places in or near Washington D.C.
    Listening and Speaking: Talk about favorite places, talk about the government, talk about famous U.S. presidents
    Pronunciation: Didja, compound nouns
    Grammar: Superlatives, the simple present passive, past passive
    Life Skills: Freedom of religion in the United States
    Writing: Write about rights and freedoms
