Course Information
Description
Academic Writing 1/2 is a basic review of Standard English grammar, sentence structure, usage, capitalization, punctuation and spelling skills. The course also focuses on the Writing Process: pre-writing, organizing, writing, revising, proofreading and submitting final drafts. Students will be expected to create well-constructed paragraphs.

    you use capitalization rules for names, titles, the pronoun "I," proper nouns, days of the week, months of the year, social titles, geographic areas, in direct quotations
    you correctly use commas to separate items in a series, in dates places, and in the greeting and closing of a business/friendly letter, after introductory words and phrases, around interrupting words and phrases and in compound and complex sentences.
    you correctly use apostrophes in contractions and to show singular and plural possession/ownership.

  3. Apply spelling rules and exceptions.

    Criteria
    you apply spelling rules: ie/ei, s/es, doubling final consonant, words ending in y, words ending with "ed" and "ing," adding prefixes and suffixes, and final e.

    you spell words correctly with prefixes and suffixes.
    you memorize commonly confused words.
    you verify spelling using technical and/or print resources
    you spell personal information (such as name and address) correctly with 100% accuracy.

  4. Compose complete sentences.
