Description
This course was formerly the C-14 module in related instruction for the MMMP apprenticeship. In 2013, based on instructor review, the competencies, performance standards, and learning objectives from the C-14 module was added to this course.  Hours reflect the combined modules.

  1. Examine different adhesive and sealant types and their applications
    Assessment Strategies
    conditions under which you will demonstrate your competence will be established by the course instructor.
    Criteria
    apprentice can locate specific data on a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
    apprentice can interpret data on a Material Safety Data Sheet
    apprentice selects correct adhesive for a specific application
    apprentice selects correct sealant for a specific application

  2. Apply adhesives to a repair
    Assessment Strategies
    conditions under which you will demonstrate your competence will be established by the course instructor.
    Criteria
    apprentice can locate specific data on a Material Safety Data Sheet
    apprentice can interpret data on a Material Safety Data Sheet
    apprentice correctly prepares surface for a particular adhesive according to the manufacturers instructions
    apprentice correctly mixes adhesive according to the manufacturers instructions
    apprentice correctly applies adhesive according to the manufacturers instructions

  3. Apply sealants for repair
    Assessment Strategies
    conditions under which you will demonstrate your competence will be established by the course instructor.
    Criteria
    apprentice can locate specific data on a Material Safety Data Sheet
    apprentice can interpret data on a Material Safety Data Sheet
    apprentice correctly prepares surface for a particular sealant according to the manufacturers instructions
    apprentice correctly applies sealant according to the manufacturers instructions
    apprentice correctly applies a multi-part sealant according to the manufacturers instructions

  4. Examine MSDS safety information for common industrial fluids
    Assessment Strategies
    Oral, Written or Graphic Assessment
    Criteria
    apprentice identifies the location of MSDS sheets
    apprentice defines terms and concepts accurately
    apprentice compares flammable and non-flammable fluids according to MSDS information and placards/labels
    apprentice compares acidic and caustic fluids and used proper PPE while handling
    apprentice identifies other fluids chemical characteristics according to MSDS apprentice applies worker safety and PPE requirements according to the situation

  5. Withdraw hazardous materials from containers
    Assessment Strategies
    by responding to hazardous incident scenarios provided by instructor
    by referencing Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
    by demonstrating safe handling procedures for hazardous materials
    Criteria
    you select the correct MSDS for the featured situation
    you explain the procedure for responding to a hazardous incident
    you identify cause of problem
    you explain what supplies and equipment might be needed to withdraw hazardous materials
    you explain the actions needed to safely withdraw hazardous materials
    you describe proper procedures for transporting hazardous materials featured in the incident your actions are correct according to the MSDS guidelines
