Course Competencies
  1. Apply article 300 (wiring methods) to industrial electrical situations
    Assessment Strategies
by creating a model of a "typical" industrial installation
by writing an explanation of your model
    Criteria
model is your own work (sign this criterion)
model is scaled down and demonstrates the installation of some component in an industrial setting
model includes color and labels for clarification and if actual wire size and components are not used, the wires in the model are labeled as to what they WOULD be in a real situation
model is neat and complies with NEC
explanation includes a clear description of how the model demonstrates the actual industrial installation and related concepts
explanation includes examples of how the model simulates the real item
explanation points out where the model differs from the real item
explanation evidences correct grammar, punctuation and spelling

  2. Size cords and cables for typical industrial electrical installations
    Assessment Strategies
by sizing cords and cables for a typical industrial electrical installation
given a simulated typical industrial electrical installation
    Criteria
apprentice explains choice for exterior jacket
apprentice explains choice for cord or cable
apprentice explains any specific concerns for installing receptacles in specific locations
    apprentice can cite applicable NEC

  3. Plan equipment installation in hazardous locations
    Assessment Strategies
by creating a plan for installation of electrical equipment in hazardous locations
    Criteria
the hazardous location installation plan includes definitions of location or situation specific terms
the hazardous location installation plan accounts for all situation requirements
the hazardous location installation plan addresses class and group classifications as appropriate
the hazardous location installation plan lists and defines all necessary equipment markings
the hazardous location installation plan accounts for any temperature limitations
the hazardous location installation plan addresses class and group classifications as appropriate to location(s)
