Course Information
Description
This course will introduce the learner to OSHA safety standards as it relates to the masonry trade. Emphasis will be placed on scaffolding regulations and guidelines. Interpreting Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDS) for pertinent information on materials used on the jobsite will also be addressed. The learner will also be introduced to safety and maintenance of hand and power tools, in addition to personal protective equipment. Overall jobsite safety is stressed.

  3. Don and doff personal protective equipment

  4. Maintain hand and power tools
    Assessment Strategies
    by creating a weekly maintenance checklist for personal hand tools, and safety checklist for power tools.

    you describe daily maintenance procedures for mortar mixer
    you describe daily safety checks on power tools.
    you explain the importance of hand and power tool maintenance as it relates to safety
    you demonstrate the procedures for sharpening dull chisels and masonry hammers
    you explain the importance of inspecting masonry saw blades

  5. Erect scaffolding
    Assessment Strategies
    by propely erecting tubular steel scaffold, and all components
    Criteria
    you demonstrate the correct procedures for setting up tubular steel scaffold, including all bracing, railing, toe boards, and scaffold access in proper locations
    you identify the various components of tubular steel scaffold
