Description
This course introduces the principles of basic dimensional measurement, layout techniques for machines, use of direct and indirect measuring tools as well as the use of length standards relative to calibration of measuring instruments and the basic operation of the Coordinate Measuring Machine.

  1. Use measurement systems
    Criteria
    Calculate conversions from inch to metric
    Calculate conversions from metric to inch
    Calculate conversions from decimal-inch to fractional
    Define common measurement terms
    Use conversion tables
    Use Tap & Drill charts
    Use an engineering scale on finished blueprint
    Perform measurements using a rule discriminating in inches
    Perform measurements using a rule discriminating in millimeters
    Define the characteristics used to define graduated scales.
    Use outside and internal calipers to measure
    Recall the 10:1 rule as it relates to measurement and inspection.

    Criteria
    Define the steps performed in a machining layout

    Criteria
    Perform measurement using a PI tape
    Perform measurement using a vernier height gage
