Course Information
Description
To further promote knowledge of repair skills related to auto body, the following discussion areas are included: the evaluation of automobile bodies and damage repair techniques, unibody construction and repair techniques, collision damage diagnosis, vehicle preparation, metal correction and parts replacement. Additional instruction may include glass installation, electrical accessories, door and window servicing and trim replacement.

  1. Analyze air and electric power tools

  2. Analyze abrasives

    you explore the different types of abrasives, grits, bond, backings used in grinding disc, sandpaper, etc
    you explore abrasives, their uses and how to apply

  3. Analyze molding and clip fastening devices
    Assessment Strategies
    by scoring a minimum of 76% on a written test
    Criteria
    you explore the different types of bolts, nuts, screws, washers, and rivets
    you determine how bolts, nuts, screws, washers and rivets are different in length, diameter, thread size, etc
    you determine where and how bolts, nuts, screws, washers and rivets are used

  4. Analyze hardware, trim and glass
    Assessment Strategies
    by scoring a minimum of 76% on a written test
    Criteria
    you remove and replace door trim, garnish moldings, glass, channels, regulators, handles, locks, hinges, striker plates and weather strip
    you remove and replace headlining, seats, cow trim, quarter trim, etc
    you clean and vacuum upholstery
    you remove and replace reveal moldings

    you apply sealers, rubbers and tapes

  5. Analyze repairing of damaged vehicles

  6. Analyze painting and preparation of vehicles

    Criteria
    you wash the surface
    you clean surface to remove tar, wax, grease, oil and all weathered finish from old paint
    you feather edging of finish surrounding repair
    you treat bare metal with metal conditioner
    you mask moldings, emblems, glass, etc
    you spot prime bare metal where rust pitted, with an epoxy chromate primer
    you apply 2 K primer surface to fill feather edged areas
    you fill flaws with a catalyzed glaze putty and reprime as needed, and sand
    you seal area to be painted
    you reduce and apply acrylic urethan single stage refinishes
    you spot repair and panel repair
