    using a provided ac system diagram
    without the use of references
    Criteria
    you correctly identify the basic components of the ac system
    you correctly identify the high pressure and low pressure portions of the ac system
    you correctly identify where the refrigerant changes from a gas to a liquid
    you correctly identify where the refrigerant changes from a liquid to a gas
    you write a detailed explanation of how the ac system moves heat from the inside of the car to the outside

  2. Test an automotive air conditioning compressor clutch circuit using a digital multimeter (DMM).
    Assessment Strategies
    using a digital multimeter
    using the provided wiring diagram
    Criteria
    you correctly identify all loads (consumers) in the circuit
    you measure and record all voltage drops in the circuit
    you differentiate between the expected voltage drops and those measured
    you write a detailed explanation of any problems found in the circuit

  3. Analyze vehicle refrigerant system for proper operation.
    Assessment Strategies
    using a thermometer
    using a ac manifold gauge set or service station
    with the vehicle running and the ac turned on
    Criteria
    you accurately test the temperature of the air output from the ac system
    you accurately identify the type of refrigerant in the system
    you accurately test the pressures of the ac system high and low side
    you interpret the results of the tests to determine if the ac system is performing correctly

  4. Demonstrate how to correctly evacuate and recharge an automotive air conditioning system.
    Assessment Strategies
    using a refrigerant identifier
    using an approved ac recovery/recycling machine
    Criteria
    you correctly identify the refrigerant in the system
    you completely evacuate the refrigerant from the system and note how much was removed
    you draw the system into a vacuum for the appropriate amount of time
    you verify the system holds the appropriate level of vacuum
    you correctly recharge the ac system with the correct amount and type of refrigerant
    you verify correct ac system operation

  5. Utilize service information to determine method of air movement control.
    Assessment Strategies
    utilizing online service information
    for a specific vehicle provided
    Criteria
    you correctly locate information on what type of air movement control the vehicle uses
    you explain how the vehicle directs air to the various locations (dash, defrost, floor, etc.)
