Course Information
Description
Students will continue salon services through an externship by performing practical skills outlined in WI Cosmetology Code 5, retail methodology, and infection control while working in a community-based licensed establishment under the supervision of a licensed cosmetologist.

  1. Implement safety and infection control practices

    Criteria
    Practice safety and sanitation procedures as identified in Wisconsin statutes and administrative codes
    Smock, apron, chemical, and cutting capes are washed effectively off-site
    Sterilize/disinfect tools and equipment
    Follow personal hygiene protocol to prevent infection spread
    Identify disorders of the hair, skin, scalp and nails that are outside of safety and infection control standards
    Work area is kept clean and neat
    Read, research, interpret, and comprehend materials and documents [Reading]

  2. Practice salon services as specified by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services

    Perform HAIR services (cut, styling, removing, straightening)
    Perform CHEMICAL services (color, relaxing, permanent wave)
    Perform NAIL services (manicure, pedicure)

    Speak so others can understand and convey meaning when speaking [speaking]
