Course Competencies
  1. Analyze hands and nails for a manicure
    Assessment Strategies
    by analyzing the hands and nails of a client
    by orally stating findings of the analysis
    by documenting the client hand/nail analysis
    Criteria
    analysis includes determining the type of nail shape
    analysis includes identifying treatable and non-treatable hand and nail conditions
    you wash hands with soap and running water prior to touching the client
    you complete the hand and nail analysis within 5 minutes

  2. Analyze feet and toenails for a pedicure
    Assessment Strategies
    by analyzing the feet and toenails of a client
    by orally stating findings of the analysis
    by documenting the client foot/toenail analysis
    Criteria
    analysis includes determining the type of nail shape
    analysis includes identifying treatable and non-treatable foot and toe nail conditions
    you wash hands with soap and running water prior to touching the client
    you complete foot and toenail analysis within 5 minutes

  3. Consult with a client for a manicure/pedicure.
    Assessment Strategies
    in a consultation with the client
    prior to the manicure/pedicure service
    in the classroom
    by successfully completing a written multiple choice evaluation
    with not less than 70% accuracy
    Criteria
    consultation includes discussing client expectations, limitations, and the shape of the nail
    consultation includes discussion regarding client, lifestyle and resulting maintenance for manicure/pedicure
    consultation includes reviewing client history, previous chemical applications, and techniques
    consultation includes discussing the type and colors of nail cosmetics enamels
    consultation includes recommendations for home nail care and products
    consultation includes disclosing cost of services
    you inform client that he/she cannot treat diseased skin unless under the direction of a physician (if appropriate)
    you obtain the client's consent or the consent of the legal guardian of the client prior to the manicure/pedicure service
    client signs a release form
    you make a reasonable effort to safely comply with the client's request
    you complete consultation within 10 minutes

  4. Prepare for a manicure/pedicure

    with not less than 70% accuracy
