Course Information
Description
The Fabrication Capstone course utilizes all the program competencies learned and combines them into final projects. Students choose from established projects and create material lists, operational procedures, fabricate components, assemble, join, and finish. All assemblies are inspected per industry standards.

  1. Demonstrate proper inspection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
    Assessment Strategies
    Lab performance evaluation, written assessment
    Criteria
    You are observed using the proper PPE correctly in the fabrication lab
    You follow safety practices throughout the manufacturing process for both yourself and others

  2. Perform layout operations for fabricated assemblies
    Assessment Strategies
    Lab performance evaluation, final assembly assessment, teamwork assessment
    Criteria
    You use the most efficient layout tools and techniques to layout components to be cut or assembled
    Layout contains all features and produces components/assemblies that meet tolerances specified on the drawing
    Layout produces components that meet functionality standards of the completed assembly

  3. Perform cutting operations for fabricated assemblies
    Assessment Strategies
    Lab performance evaluation, safety assessment, final assembly assessment, teamwork assessment
    Criteria
    You safely operate cutting equipment
    You use the most efficient cutting methods to cut components that meet tolerances specified on the drawing
    Cutting produces product that meets functionality standards of the completed assembly
    You perform routine maintenance realted to inspection and replacement of cutting consumables
    You load programs and nest sheets for optimal sheet utilization
    You edit cutting conditions for optimal cut quality and productivity

  4. Perform forming operations for fabricated assemblies
    Assessment Strategies
    Lab performance evaluation, safety assessment, teamwork assessment, final assembly assessment
    Criteria
    You safely operate forming equipment
    You use the most efficient forming methods to form components that meet tolerances specified on the drawing
    Forming produces product that meets functionality standards of the completed assembly

  5. Perform joining operations for fabricated assemblies
    Assessment Strategies
    Safety assessment, teamwork assessment, welding detail assessment, final assembly assessment
    Criteria
    You safely operate joining equipment
    You use the most efficient cutting methods to join components that meet the tolerances specified on the drawing
    You perform routine maintenance related to inspection and replacement of welding consumables
    Welding conforms to specification D1.3 of the American Welding Society for size, location, absence of defects, and cleanliness

  6. Inspect product
    Assessment Strategies
    Welding detail assessment, final assembly assessment
    Criteria
    You verify components and their conformance to drawing requirements
    You verify functionality of the completed assembly
    You verify welding meets the criteria in AWS D1.3
    You verify finish requirements are met according to the Final Assembly Rubric
