Course Information
Description
Fabrication 1 students will be introduced to the fundamentals of metal cutting and forming. Students will create assemblies from industrial drawings conforming to industry standards. Emphasis will be placed on the safety, basic layout techniques, bending calculations, and operational of manual and mechanical cutting/forming equipment.

  3. Perform cutting operations for fabrication assemblies

    Written evaluation of the operation of the Shear, Horizontal Band Saw, Drill Press, and Iron Worker is completed successfully per instructor guidelines
    Safely operate cutting equipment
    Set up cutting machinery per specification

  4. Perform forming operations for fabrication assemblies
    Assessment Strategies
    Written test, lab performance evaluation
    Criteria
    Written evaluation of the operation of the Box/Pan Brake and Hossfeld Bender is successfully completed per instructor guidelines
    Safely operate manual forming equipment
    Forming meets quality standards per tolerances specified on the drawing
    Lengths for the web, flanges, and angles meet quality standards per tolerances specified on the drawing
    Forming is free of sharp edges
    Forming is free of dust, oil, or dirt

  5. Perform joining operations for fabrication assemblies

    You safely operate joining equipment
    Holes conform to quality standards
    Screws or bolts are placed and fitted per drawing
