Course Information
Description
Develops manipulative skills on all types of joints in the overhead and/or pipe positions using E7018 & E6010 shielded metal arc welding electrodes on mild steel. Develop welding techniques used for fillet and groove weld competencies to AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code. Course also includes air carbon arc gouging (ACC), repairs, and other advanced welding processes and applications for related trades.

Course Competencies

Demonstrate safe work habits when welding in the overhead position

Create SMAW overhead stringer beads using F3 and F4 electrodes

Create SMAW overhead fillet welds using F3 and F4 electrodes

Complete an AWS prequalified groove weld in the overhead position

Demonstrate safe work habits and set-up for metal cored (MCAW) and self-shielding (FCAW) welding processes

Demonstrate safe work habits and set-up for the carbon arc gouging and cutting operation

Complete a welding repair that replicates what would be found in business and industry
