Course Information
Description
This course provides an introduction to the identification, safe use and care of hand and portable power tools. Lab work includes the construction of sawhorses using techniques learned in class.

Course Competencies
  1. Use measurement and layout tools for construction.

  2. Cut wood with hand and power saws.

  3. Use hand held power tools for surfacing wood.

    Your project has a smooth finish with few to no flaws
    Use a belt sander to surface and scribe wood
    Use a hand held power plane for surfacing wood
    Use a random orbit sander to sand solid wood and plywood

  4. Use pneumatic nailers for joining wood.

  5. Use stationary power tools for milling lumber.

    Adjust and use a joiner to create a flat surface on wood
    Use a table saw and miter saw to mill lumber to accurate dimensions
