Course Information
Description
This course introduces the learner to the operation of traditional woodworking equipment. Students perform numerous exercises to gain familiarity with portable power tools and industrial woodworking machinery while building their skills and familiarity with wood. Units include layout, sawing, surfacing, boring, and sanding.

  3. Maintain measurement and lay out tools

    learner tests squares for accuracy
    learner demonstrates proper care and handling requirements for measuring, marking and lay out tools
    learner properly lubricates and waxes tools to prevent rust
    learner properly sharpens the points of awls and marking tools for accurate lay out

  4. Select and use portable power saws for cutting straight or curved kerfs or cuts

  5. Operate a Power Miter Box safely and properly

    learner differentiates between Fixed head, Compound, and Sliding Compound Power Miter Box saws
    learner cuts miters, bevels, and compound angles using a power miter box

  6. Operate a Table saw safely and properly

  7. Operate a Band saw safely and properly

  10. Operate hand, portable and stationary boring equipment safely

  11. Use abrasives by hand

  12. Use Portable Power sanders safely

    learner follows proper safety procedures for operating Portable Power sanding tools
    learner identifies parts, adjustments and uses for Orbital, Random Orbit and Portable Belt sanders
    learner installs abrasive media correctly

  13. Operate Disk and Edge sanders safely
