Course Information
Description
Modern Art Survey and Practice is both an art history and studio course exploring the developments in European and American art between the years of approximately 1800-1945. We will do a chronological study of influential artists, artworks and ideas from each of the noteworthy periods or movements through lectures, slide and video presentations, readings, discussion, and individual research. The course broadens the student's skill level in idea development, research strategies, and technique through a series of hands-on studio assignments designed to engage their understanding and application of concepts, processes and visual languages unique to each period.
