Course Information
Description
Art, like other careers, is concerned with finding answers to problems. Design deals specifically with developing the form and structure of a visual idea. The goal is a visual organization of elements that evokes a powerful response from the viewer. Creativity is an essential part of the process, but no less important is the ability to plan, and the willingness to revise, a design solution.Independent artists often create their own problems or paths of exploration. In this class, the problems will be defined by the assignments you receive in class. The requirements are often rather specific. However, this need not result in predictable outcomes. There will be room in every assignment to find a unique design solution, which, beyond the requirements, stands aesthetically on its own. This course explores design with color as the primary emphasis (in conjunction with line, shape, space, value, and texture). Discussions and assignments address color mixing skills, theories of color perception, and principles of color composition.
