Course Information
Description
Includes theoretical examination of the process of communication, the role of speech in self-development, the nature of meaning and the art of persuasion. Provides practice in selecting speech topics, analyzing audiences, organizing speech content, improving speech delivery and critiquing speeches via presentation of informative and persuasive speeches. Several graded and nongraded small group discussions sharpen additional communicative skills.

    you compose a purpose statement for each speech
    you apply techniques of content organization appropriate to the speech purpose
    you use format of introduction, body and conclusion

  3. Use research-based evidence
    Assessment Strategies
    by preparing and delivering speeches based on cited sources
    Criteria
    you utilize research skills and strategies to find information for speeches
    you judge the credibility of sources and reliability of claims in supporting information
    you cite sources within the body of the speech to avoid plagiarism

  4. Deliver speeches with effective verbal and non-verbal skills

    by delivering five speeches
    by using a visual or audio aid in at least one speech

    you apply appropriate verbal skills of voice: rate, pitch, quality, and volume
