Course Information
Description
This course provides the opportunity for the learner to develop the knowledge skills process and understanding of cardiovascular endurance and fitness through short lectures and physical conditioning on stationary fixed-gear "spinning" bikes with music as a motivator.

  1. Produce an increased personal fitness level.
    Assessment Strategies
    by attending and participating in class
    by submitting a workout journal
    by daily assessment of personal fitness.
    Criteria
    you increase cardiorespiratory endurance
    you improve muscular endurance and strength
    you attend and participate in over 75% of class meetings.

  2. Apply principles of resistance training.
    Assessment Strategies
    by completing a written exam
    by attending and participating in class
    by learning to manipulate the variables related to resistance training to make exercise appropriate for one's self.
    Criteria
    you use proper bike mechanics
    you identify personal heart rate training zone and exercise with an appropriate intensity and effort.
    you achieve the minimum passing score on a written exam.
    you use the principle of micro-progression to improve biking performance.
    you apply the concepts of strength training.

  3. Demonstrate use of a fixed-gear spinning bike.

    by monitoring biking performance
    by assessing personal biking performance
    by taking a written exam
    Criteria
    proper adjustments to the bike are made to fit the individual
    you can demonstrate proper use of the bike in various riding positions
    you achieve the minimum passing score on a written exam.

  4. Analyze a personal diet.

    by personal assessment of one's diet via a diet log assignment.
    Criteria
    you identify problems in your diet.
