Course Information
Description
Enhances the practice of yoga. Continues the exploration of the philosophy that underlies yoga as a means of stress management, fitness and relaxation. Concepts of yoga philosophy are discussed, which provides the basis for the practice of these techniques. Designed for participants that have yoga experience, such as completing a beginning yoga course or have been practicing yoga for 4 months or more, the course covers yoga poses, breathing techniques and meditations that relax both the mind and the body.

  1. Demonstrate yoga poses as well as variations of poses

    Criteria
    Demonstrate at least two poses or variations of poses from the following yoga pose categories:
    ·        Warm-up & sun salutations
    ·        Backbends
    ·        Twists
    ·        Inversions
    ·        Standing
    ·        Balancing
    ·        Hip openers
    ·        Forward folds
    ·        Arm balances
    Poses show evidence of best practice techniques as identified by the instructor

  2. Demonstrate various breathing techniques

    Apply five different breathing techniques used in yoga
    Explore differences between the types of breaths and how they affect stress and well-being
    Apply the concepts of prana and pranayama

  3. Explore meditation styles and mindfulness techniques

    Differentiate between meditation and mindfulness
    Explore progressive relaxation techniques
