Course Information
Description
Students will apply existing knowledge of performance technique on an individual instrument within a full concert band. Students will develop ensemble advanced performance skills for woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Advanced-level musical repertoire ranges from original compositions for wind band to transcriptions and arrangements of popular music from the 20th and 21st centuries. Two to three public performances will take place outside the regular rehearsal time each semester. Open to all winds, brass, and percussion following a seating placement audition with the conductor.

  1. Explore advanced-level concert band repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries
    Assessment Strategies
    Participate in ensemble rehearsals, complete individual practice assignments, perform music of an advanced level in public ensemble concerts
    Criteria
    Attend class regularly.
    Arrive for class on time.
    Prepare to play before a rehearsal begins.
    Prepare to play before a performance begins.
    Participate in ensemble warm-up activities.
    Participate in ensemble tuning.
    Perform rhythms accurately as assigned.
    Perform melodies accurately as assigned.
    Perform with appropriate articulation.
    Perform with appropriate volume level to achieve ensemble balance.
    Perform with appropriate tone quality.
    Perform with correct intonation.
    Perform assigned parts with others.
    Perform solos as assigned and appropriate.
