Course Information
Description
Choir 1 allows students the opportunity to apply existing knowledge of vocal performance technique within a full choir. The course addresses musical performance skills through weekly rehearsal of choral music composed in the 18th through 21st centuries. Two public performances will occur outside the regular rehearsal time each semester. Offered in the fall semester and open to all vocalists. No audition necessary.

    Prepare to sing before a rehearsal begins
    Prepare to sing before a performance begins
    Participate in ensemble warm-up activities
    Participate in ensemble tuning

    Perform melodies accurately as assigned
    Perform rhythms accurately as assigned
    Perform with appropriate articulation
    Perform with appropriate volume level to achieve ensemble balance
    Perform with appropriate tone quality
    Perform with correct vocal intonation
    Perform with appropriate body alignment and posture for singing
    Perform assigned parts with others
    Perform solos as assigned
    Respond appropriately to the conductor’s verbal instructions
    Respond appropriately to the conductor’s non-verbal conducting gestures
    Make appropriate comments to other members of your section
    Respond appropriately to the comments of your colleagues
    Music is composed in the 18th through 21st centuries
    You demonstrate choral performance etiquette
