Course Information
Description
Intro to Modern Arabic 2 builds on the basic understanding of the Arabic sounds and writing system and conversational skills in Modern Standard Arabic established in Intro to Modern Arabic 1. Emphasis is placed on the continued development of more complex communicative skills through practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of Arabic 2, students will acquire the communicative skills necessary to handle simple everyday survival tasks in Arabic. You will also have a better understanding of and appreciation for people and cultures other than your own and an increased awareness of Arabic-speaking countries in the world. This course fulfills the needs of those wishing to pursue studies of the Quran and classical texts as well as those wishing to be proficient in contemporary Arabic in both its written and formal spoken forms. Knowledge of this form of Arabic can serve as a basis for further studies of regional dialects. At the end of the course, students will be able to speak and write about themselves with advanced control of the Arabic writing system. This course, combined with Intro to Modern Arabic 1 transfers to the University of Wisconsin-Madison as equivalent to the 5 credit African Lang. Lit 321: First Semester Arabic.
