Course Information
Description
Intro to Modern Arabic 1 introduces learners of Arabic to the sounds and writing system with the simultaneous introduction of conversational skills in this language. Arabic 1 provides students with the basics, structure, and lexical familiarity to enable them to greet and thank someone in Standard Arabic expressions, to introduce themselves, describe their nationality, seek and provide basic information, and so forth. Arabic 1 students will perform these linguistic practices by engaging in structured functional activities and grammatical exercises. Knowledge of this form of Arabic can serve as a basis for further studies of regional dialects. After the course, students will be able to speak and write using a basic vocabulary and a thorough understanding of the Arabic writing system. This course, combined with Intro to Modern Arabic 2, transfers to the University of Wisconsin-Madison as equivalent to the 5 credit African Lang. Lit 321: First Semester Arabic
