Course Information
Description
This course covers the skills used in the building design process. It is considered a capstone design studio which integrates skills gained in your first three semesters. Project may involve community-based and/or non-profit organizations and actual client interaction. Learners solve architectural building design problems through site design, massing, program analysis, building circulation, space flow diagrams, adjacency studies, and building context.

Course Competencies
  1. Design a multi-story commercial building that is in alignment with the basic concepts of the commercial building code including accessibility as part of a team

  2. Assess building materials and systems based on performance, cost, and environmental factors

  3. Apply sustainable design strategies to the design of a building

  4. Interview a client to determine project requirements and program elements for a building design

  5. Implement laser scanning as a mean to capture existing conditions of an existing site and/or structure

  6. Demonstrate basic ReCap software skills

  7. Integrate an existing point cloud model into the design and presentation process of a building

  8. Create presentation drawings and renderings for an architectural design proposal

  9. Produce experiential representation for an architectural building design

  10. Review and critique the design work of peers

  11. Present an original architectural design to a group

  12. Create a portfolio of learner’s work
