Description
Architectural Studio 1 introduces students to foundational architectural design-thinking, principles, and techniques. Through lectures, technology, and conceptual design projects, students will become familiar with the architectural design process, complex spatial design, brainstorming, architectural tectonics, and visualization.

Course Competencies
  1. Visualize and iteratively generate architectural designs

  2. Characterize architectural tectonics

  4. Draw in a sketchbook or make physical models to brainstorm, ideate, and visualize as a preliminary means of design exploration

  5. Develop an architectural design solution using 3D digital conceptual models, floor plans, elevations, and sections.

  6. Articulate sustainable design strategies using proper terminology

  7. Employ proper graphic conventions for design drawings

  8. Apply AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Layout software programs to document a design problem solution

  9. Examine how InDesign software is used to develop composition and layout.

  10. Review and critique the design work of peers

  11. Present an original architectural design to a group

  12. Create a portfolio
