Course Information
Description
A comprehensive application of the Mechanical Design Technology program, in which student design teams will ultimately complete a Design Portfolio through the implementation of the Design Project Plan, previously developed in the Engineering Tech. Project Management course. The DPP will be carried out through the MDT program Design Process model, and the final design project work for this course will be documented in a Design Project Notebook. Student design teams will make a formal team design project presentation at the conclusion of the semester, which may include the actual working product prototype.

Course Competencies (Course Outcomes)
  1. Communicate effectively in written, verbal, and electronic formats to coworkers, supervisors, and customers (i.e., Design Project Plan, Design Project Notebook, Design Reviews, Project Presentations, e-drawings, Product Data Management software)

  2. Apply technical math and science knowledge to prepare engineering drawings and assist in the design of products (i.e., Product Design and Verification, Engineering Drawings)

  3. Use computers and appropriate software to solve problems and communicate in the mechanical design work environment (i.e., Microsoft Office Products or others)

  6. Analyze mechanical parts based on selection criteria and strength requirements (i.e., Product Design and Selection of Components using Statics, Strength of Materials, and Machine Design principles; Analysis Software)

  7. Demonstrate appropriate professional behaviors by effectively managing time, maintaining positive client relations, accurately assessing personal work performance, displaying initiative and professional ethics

  8. Work effectively and productively within a teamwork environment
