Course Information
Description
Students are introduced to advanced modeling and design techniques for part design in sheet metal, weldments, and mold design. An introduction to the PDM interface for product data management will also be explored through collaborative drawing applications.

  1. Manage SolidWorks and related files using the software and operating system

    Criteria
    Start the SolidWorks program from the start menu.
    Use existing SolidWork templates to create drawing documents.
    Identify file extensions (such as .sldprt, .sldasm, .sldlfp, .sldftp) and file locations.
    Identify and using the different command and property managers used to create and modify entities within sketches and features.
    Identify and modify system options and document properties.
    Manipulate the SolidWorks interface to create drawings.
    Create, edit, and save parts in the PDM (Product Data Management) system.

  2. Create working part and assembly models using sheet metal, weldments, surfacing, and design table modeling techniques

    Criteria
    Use command managers to extrude, revolve, cut, rib, shell, pattern, loft, sweep, reference geometry and create threads for part models.
    Use bottom-up assembly modeling techniques to insert and mate components.
    Apply advanced mates and configurations within assembly models.
    Use the design library, toolbox, and vendor sites to insert part components.
    Use the sheet metal command manager to create part models.
    Use the weldments command manager to create assembly models.
    Use the surfaces command manager to create part models.
    Create design tables to control part data.
    Create and edit parts in the top down assembly mode.

  3. Create working part and assembly drawings

    Criteria
    Create multi-view drawings of a part, including dimensions, notes, and titleblock information.
    Create assembly drawings of parts, including bill of material and related information.
    Construct drawing views using configurations.

  4. Demonstrate the ability to output drawings from SolidWorks
    Criteria
    Choose the correct paper size, orientation, and other page setup options.
    Plot the drawing to the appropriate scale.
    Output the drawing to the desired printer.
    Save the drawing to the desired location as a .pdf format.
