Course Information
Description
This course is for AYES program students only. It is a study of design, construction and service of vehicle braking systems. Emphasis is placed on disc and drum applications, power brake units, hydraulic systems and components along with ABS, maintenance and the parking brake system.

    you inspect fitting for leaks, dents, kinks, rust, cracks, bulging or wear

    you replace lines, hoses, fittings and/or supports as needed
    you select the appropriate brake fluid
    you handle brake fluid in the proper manner
    you store brake fluid in an approved container

    you remove caliper assembly from mountings
    you remove pads and retaining hardware
    you inspect caliper assembly slides for wear
    you disassemble caliper assembly
    you clean caliper assembly
    you determine necessary action to repair caliper assembly
    you clean pads and retaining hardware
    you inspect pads and retaining hardware
    you lubricate caliper, pads, and related hardware
    you rebuild caliper assembly
    you reassemble caliper, pads, and related hardware

    you reassemble brake system

  5. Diagnose and repair parking brake

    you check parking brake cables and components for wear and corrosion
    you lubricate and adjust parking brake components as needed
    you replace parking brake components as needed
    you complete the parking brake inspection portion of the brake inspection form

  6. Diagnose and repair power assist unit

    you inspect hydro-boost systems for leaks and proper operation
    you test hydro-boost systems and accumulator for leaks and proper operation
    you determine necessary action for systems repair

  7. Diagnose and repair anti-lock brake systems

    you identify anti-lock brake system (ABS) components
    you inspect anti-lock brake system (ABS) components

    you determine necessary action to repair anti-lock brake system problems
    you diagnose ABS electric controls and components using self-diagnosis or recommended test equipment
