Course Information
Description
Topics include terminology, the refrigeration cycle, safety, refrigerants, lubricants, and environmental issues. Operate, evacuate, charge, and repair basic refrigeration units. Identify applications of HVAC components, refrigeration controls, condensers, heat exchangers, dampers, blowers, compressors. Use common and high tech tools of HVAC industry conduct preventive maintenance / repair procedures. Use of virtual interactive troubleshooting programs to reinforce troubleshooting skills. Reinforce documentation of work procedures and complete refrigerant tracking reports. Cover in depth existing and newly developed refrigerants.

    Use a refractory meter to identify types of oil.

  9. Install and remove refrigeration manifold gauge sets from fully operational air conditioning system

  10. Practice a complete start-up, checkout, and test operation of air conditioning system

    Monitor pull down to the prescribed operating conditions.
    Compare compressor full load current with actual measurements.

    Accurately measure and record temperature drop across both the evaporate and condenser coils.

  11. Complete refrigerant recovery, system evacuation, system charging, and operational checks of basic air conditioning systems

    Select proper recovery machine and recovery tank according to the refrigerant type.
    Connect equipment, gauges, recovery machine, and recovery tank for liquid recovery and/or for vapor recovery.
    Recover the refrigerant to the required degree according to the EPA and Wisconsin codes.
    Terminate the recovery process with minimum losses and store or dispense with refrigerant as needed.

  12. Troubleshoot a complete refrigeration system and perform problem analysis

  13. Service window air conditioning units, split systems and heat pumps
