Course Information
Description
This course provides the opportunity for students to apply classroom theory and skills in an industry environment. Activities may include use of tools, troubleshooting techniques, and working with customers and staff in the field. Students learn useful skills based on field experience.

  1. Follow safety procedures

  4. Diagnose heating and cooling system problems

    Criteria
    Identity system components
    Use temperature and pressure measuring instruments at key points
    Identify cylinder by color or codes
    Explain function of compressors, condensers, evaporators, metering devices, controls, and accessories
    Diagnosis is accurate and meets facility and mentor specifications

  5. Perform basic equipment maintenance and/or repair tasks for air conditioning systems

    Troubleshoot operational problems
    Perform and/or assist with performing maintenance tasks such as filter replacement, component cleaning, and temperature measurements
    Use testing equipment effectively

  6. Install fabricated parts

    Compare shop versus site installation strategies
    Prepare for task by loading and unloading materials, tools, equipment, and supplies, if applicable
    Verify metal is fabricated to meet specifications of task
    Ducts allow for air flow, meeting facility and mentor guidelines
    Ducts are lifted, positioned, and secured effectively
    Installation is performed efficiently
