10-515-184 Neonatal Pediatric Resuscitation Course Information Description The learner will be introduced to the basic concepts of neonatal resuscitation and learn how to evaluate and establish appropriate treatment interventions in the stabilization of an acutely ill neonate. Total Credits 1 Course Competencies (Course Outcomes) Recognize the signs and symptoms of a neonate in cardiorespiratory distress Assessment Strategies Patient Assessment Criteria ask appropriate questions before the delivery perform a patient assessment determine if the patient needs further steps of care Perform the steps of neonatal resuscitation Assessment Strategies Hands On Lab Activities and/or Simulation Criteria explain the indications for neonatal resuscitation follow the steps identified by the American Academy of Pediatrics Guidelines for Pediatric Resuscitation perform as a team leader perform as a team member Perform airway management on neonates Assessment Strategies Hands On Lab Activities and/or Simulation Criteria perform bag mask ventilation perform endotracheal ventilation use T-Piece ventilation Deliver medications used during neonatal resuscitation Assessment Strategies Hands On Lab Activities and/or Simulations Criteria explain the indications and contraindications of medications used during neonatal resuscitation determine the correct medication for the situation calculate drug dosage select the appropriate route of delivery Describe special circumstances that require a different approach to newborn care including the presence of meconium at deliveries, premature deliveries, and ethical considerations Assessment Strategies Oral and/or Written Assessment Criteria determine when a special circumstance is present determine an action plan defend the rationale for the action plan follow the steps indicated
