Students will prepare a portfolio of professional experiences, assessments and evaluations, class projects and a resume for employment.

  2. Evidence of clinical work
    Assessment Strategies
    by documenting clinical reports
    Criteria
    you have included your clinical phlebotomy collection record
    you collect other laboratory unknown reports
    you collect other reports of diagnostic testing protocols or procedures performed on clinical rotation for specific disease correlation
    you include a copy of your clinical rotation schedule or list of laboratory sections and tests that were covered

  3. Technical Writing
    Assessment Strategies
    by summarizing patient history leading to current hospitalization
    by correlating results of diagnostic testing to the disease process
    presenting case study for professional review and peer education
    Criteria
    a case study includes all components identified in the rubric
    all patient identifying information is removed per HIPAA compliance
    summary of diagnostic testing shows a relationship to the patient history
    portfolio demonstrates correct grammar, punctuation and spelling
    continuing education handout is prepared for audience

  4. Evidence of Service, Honors/Awards, Professional Activities
    Assessment Strategies
    by performing service to the college and community
    Criteria
    you document service activities with a log of date/time
    you provide a list of student and professional organizations where you have membership
    you provide copies of student awards received
    you provide copies of continuing education hours, PACE, ASCP, etc

  5. Prepare for employment as an MLT
    Assessment Strategies
    by preparing a resume and cover letter
    by preparing a list references for employment
    by preparation of student portfolio
    Criteria
    resume is reviewed and edited
    resume is grammatically correct,with no spelling errors
    cover letter contains all of the components
    reference list has correct contact information
    portfolio demonstrates correct grammar, punctuation and spelling

  6. Review technical experiences for board-certification
    Assessment Strategies
    will a checklist of tasks that are performed in the department
    by performing evaluations of technical and professional skills
    with review charts of diagnostic testing
    Criteria
    technical and professional evaluations are reviewed by instructor and student
    key points are summarized on review charts for diagnostic data
    portfolio is well organized
    portfolio is supported by relevant evidence of achievement
    portfolio contains a section for MLT college transcript
    portfolio contains contact information for the American Society of Clinical Pathology
    portfolio contains section for MLT(ASCP) certificate and registration number
    portfolio contains a section for logging continuing education certificates
