Description
A continuation of modeling skills developed in first two semesters with concentration in creating character and creature models correctly structured for rigging and animation. Realistic and stylized designs are explored as well as advanced UV and basepage techniques.

Course Competencies (Course Outcomes)
  1. Apply concepts to anatomy, proportion, and shape through organic character models
    Assessment Strategies
    Generating an initial volumetric structure which exhibits the principles taught in all the prerequisites for this course.
    Changing poly configuration to avoid stretching, crashing and concave poly structures within a character model.
    Reconstructing topology to create efficient and proper edge flow for character models, seams and deformation.
    Criteria
    Models exhibit rigid tension, volumetric shapes and the effects of gravity that are consistent with a realistic anatomical structure
    Models illustrate balance, grace, tension and various other principles covered in figure drawing, animation concepts two and modeling three
    Models support a believable anatomical structure complete with muscles, bones, tendons, fatty tissues, and various other anatomical parts consistent in nature

  2. Produce advanced organic character models
    Assessment Strategies
    Demonstrating strong model construction predicated on the techniques and principles covered in modeling three as well as any and all pre-requisites.
    Constructing models that will deform properly, maintaining their volumes based on their poly flow.
    Applying the precise modeling tools to create stable and predictable geometry.
    Criteria
    Support all the vertices, edges, and faces of a model as not to create duplicate geometry, holes, or other degrading artifacts which will break the integrity of the model
    Construct moveable areas of the character model so the volume or shape of the geometry is not compromised when the character is moving
    Identify the correct modeling tools needed to create a complex character model while maintaining the structural integrity of the geometry

  3. Create professional character models for real-time or pre-rendered applications using multi-step processes
    Assessment Strategies
    Successfully producing various maps, materials and or hi/low poly relationships required for professional 3D models.
    Creating the appropriate inputs and output required for specific shader FXs.
    Producing professional quality work at all tangible check-in points within the asset creation pipeline.  Examples include but are not limited to: Thumbnails, Design Sketches, Pre-Textured Models, Textures, Materials and Renders.
    Criteria
    Constructs and apply the appropriate shaders to their projects to create the required FXs
    Work is high quality at each stage of the pipeline to create an overall successful project

  4. Apply critical thinking to solve technical 3D modeling issues and problems.
    Assessment Strategies
    Trouble shooting issues and problems that arise in their project.
    Developing custom solutions to unique modeling issues and needs
    Successfully fixing any and all technical issues that arise with their project.
    Criteria
    Diagnose any and all technical issues related to their project
    Develop custom tools and solutions for specific organic surface modeling needs
    Fix any and all technical issues related to your project

  5. Meet deadlines through strong self-management skills
    Assessment Strategies
    The learner will demonstrate competence by (Condition):
    Demonstrating the ability to turn in projects on time.
    Outlining the scope and timeline of each project.
    Calculating the resources needed for each project.
    Criteria
    The learner produces advanced level character models within the time frame allowed per project.
    The learner diagrams the overall scope and working schedule predicated on the final deadline issued by the instructor
    The learner has accounted for all the resource needs of their specific project.

  6. Use 3D modeling lexicon
    Assessment Strategies
    The learner will demonstrate competence by (Condition):
    Expressing the modeling concepts covered in modeling three, as well as any subsequent pre-requisites, during classroom critiques and classroom discussions.
    Diagraming and identifying, through designs, the concepts and principles covered in modeling three and any subsequent pre-requisites
    Written exams.
    Criteria
    The learner employs the modeling terminology covered in modeling three, as well as any subsequent pre-requisites, during classroom critiques and classroom discussions.
    The learner sketches and diagrams designs that employ proper technical modeling terms and concepts.
    The learner demonstrates an understanding through written exams.
