Course Information
Description
This course focuses on concept and the creation of unique and unifying visual solutions applied to print and digital media. Students will deepen their knowledge of previously learned competencies such as composition, hierarchy, typography and color. Projects are designed to give freedom to explore various styles and a range of ideas that mimic a typical agency setting. This is an advanced-level course with an emphasis on portfolio-quality work.

    Project shows evidence of interesting headline typography using kerning and various manipulation techniques
    Project demonstrates strong typographic hierarchy
    Project demonstrates effective use of font families
    Width of typefaces are best match for the final composition
    Projects shows evidence of strong typographic pairings

  3. Create a visual language across various mediums

    Curate and/or make imagery
    Select effective typography, color and texture to create a strong visual language
    Visual language is effectively applied across various mediums
    Integrate illustration or other image-making techniques to create original designs
    Visual language shows a cohesive use of elements across multi-page / screen layouts

  4. Implement advanced print design and layout best practices

  5. Implement advanced digital design and layout best practices

    Utilize a responsive grid to execute multiple sizes of one concept
    Select, style and scale typography for screen
    Project shows correct pixel dimensions and resolution for images on screen

  6. Implement concept ideation

    Research / Proof of Concept Written Product
    Criteria
    Define a creative goal
    Create multiple options and ideas for a single subject
    Concept original ideas by writing multiple idea statements
    Demonstrate use of a strong process by creating sketches, content maps and mood boards
    Tight sketches, content maps and mood boards meet specifications as identified by industry and the instructor
    Project shows use of resources for finding inspiration

  7. Follow workflow best practices
