Course Information
Description
Students will gain practical experience and valuable skills working with real clients. Under the leadership of an instructor working as a creative director, the course allows students to work within an agency environment. Projects could range from quick-turnaround pieces to multi-channel campaigns.

Course Competencies
  1. Use a project management system

    Criteria
    Create job folders with a supplied naming convention
    Input key dates into the system
    Input the client’s production specifications in the proper-assigned job folder
    Communicate with a design team in the system
    Organize final production files and upload to the system with a supplied naming convention

  2. Apply the use of a creative brief
    Assessment Strategies
    Projects, Written Creative Brief, Meeting
    Criteria
    Meeting agenda clearly identifies key topics and timelines
    Describe your design process to the client
    On-boarding meeting with client includes gathering logos, existing fonts, design assets
    Examine the information needed at the discovery phase (organization’s mission, target customer)
    Creative brief is written to instructor specifications
    Evaluate the content of the creative brief to begin preliminary concepts
    Act on the feedback received from the client and instructor

  3. Create a variety of campaigns and design assets
    Assessment Strategies
    Projects, Presentation
    Criteria
    Use the contents of a creative brief
    Identify needs of the client in color choices and typographic options
    Project includes copy writing
    Project contains a minimum of 2 initial concepts
    Demonstrate design fundamentals (hierarchy, contrast)
    Demonstrate skills in InDesign, XD, Illustrator, and Photoshop
    Presentation to the client includes elements as specified by the instructor
    Critique and receive feedback on the project

  4. Produce production-ready files for print
    Assessment Strategies
    Projects, Skills Demonstration
    Criteria
    Correctly identify the quantity of pieces that the client needs
    Image color mode and resolution are accurately matched to specifications
    Print preflight accurately matches specifications
    Troubleshoot print errors and warnings
    Files are accurate and show evidence of proofreading
    Print and trim mock-ups as specified by the instructor
    Export print-ready files with specifications supplied by the instructor
    Export is performed effectively

  5. Produce production-ready digital files
    Assessment Strategies
    Projects, Skills Demonstration
    Criteria
    Image color mode and resolution are correctly matched to specifications
    Image batches in photoshop meet instructor specifications
    Troubleshoot errors and warnings
    Files are accurate and show evidence of proofreading
    Export assets that are ready to load to websites and social media platforms
    Export is performed effectively
