Course Information
Description
Simulated experience of helping a client launch a new brand. Produce a cohesive set of projects including logo and identity, brand standards guide, web presence, motion graphics, and unique print collateral materials appropriate to support this new venture. Smaller independent projects provide additional opportunities to include multi-piece collections for their portfolio.

  1. Write a target profile for assigned business/brand

  2. Create multiple branding options/directions

    Demonstrate concepts relevant to target profile
    Identify successful branding campaigns
    Include at least 3 idea statements that define the direction
    Include at least 3 mood boards that define the visual style
    Include at least 3 logo sketches/roughs
    Presentation incorporates a combination of these elements
    You participate in a critique and receive feedback on the work

  3. Finalize logo
    Assessment Strategies

    Criteria
    Identify a direction from initial branding options
    Show application of feedback from initial branding options
    Logo is refined and vectorized
    Logo is tested in various usages to ensure function
    Logo shows evidence of 1-color use
    Logo shows evidence of color application
    Logo is displayed in multiple orientations (horizontal, vertical, small use)
    You participate in a critique and receive feedback on the work

  4. Create branding campaign

    Criteria
    Show application of feedback from finalizing logo
    Demonstrate branding on a variety of materials (brochure, website, business card, t-shirts, environmental graphics, social media, print/digital advertising, etc.)
    Incorporate photography, illustrations, graphics, typography, and/or color in a unified manner across the materials
    Demonstrate clear hierarchy and design principles
    Demonstrate software skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
    You participate in a critique and receive feedback on the work

  5. Format final campaign for presentation
    Assessment Strategies
    Project, Presentation
    Criteria
    Show application of feedback from branding campaign
    Incorporate original idea statement and mood boards
    Display typography, colors and main elements of the branding system
    Describe at least one rule in the usage of the logo and other main elements
    Presentation includes chosen branding materials displayed in created or found mockups
    Final work is exported in a file format suited to share with a client
    You participate in a critique and receive feedback on the work
