Course Information
Description
This course will provide the student with an overview of the opportunities available in the insurance industry. This class will discuss positions at both the company and agency level. In addition, the students will learn to develop a resume, learn how to build a network in the industry, discuss proper interviewing techniques and how to go after the position that best meets their career goals and desires. The class stresses interaction so that students can achieve the objectives.

Research insurance careers and match them to the personal interest and skills.Assessment StrategiesIn a 2-3 page paper, the student has summarized a specific position in the industry and the match to the student s abilities and career goals.By asking specific job related questions of a guest speaker.By orally presenting their research in class and asking questions of other students regarding their employment research.CriteriaStudent can communicate why a specific employment opportunity is or isn't a match for student.Student has gained an understanding of the resources available for researching employment opportunities.

Identify appropriate resources to develop a successful networking system.Assessment StrategiesBy submitting a 2-3 page paper that describes an association, how it would be used to build career success, and the benefits it would provide to a person employed in the insurance industry.By orally presenting their findings in class.By asking 2-3 questions of a guest speaker that exhibits knowledge of networking.CriteriaStudent researches network groups within the industry or are beneficial to the insurance industry.Student's reflection presents insight about the benefits of networking for career success.Student's reflection accurately describes the network or association they researched.Student orally presents the results of the research.
