Course Information
Description
This course meets the state educational requirements (8 hours of state laws and ethics and 12 hours of terminology and product knowledge for the Property line) in preparation for taking the State of Wisconsin examination for licensure with the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance. Licensing in Wisconsin allows the agent to sell and service Property Insurance products and work directly with the consumer.

  1. Develop an awareness of ethical decision making in insurance and Wisconsin Intermediary Insurance Laws.
    Assessment Strategies
    By providing an oral reflection in class on ethical practices.
    By answering a set of questions on Blackboard with regards to insurance laws and insurance principles.
    By completion of the corresponding pages in the Pre-Licensing Packet.
    Criteria
    Student's reflection presents insight about ethical decision making in insurance.
    Student can describe some of the laws pertaining to sales and service of Insurance in Wisconsin.
    Students express an understanding of the Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner s authority.

  2. Explain general insurance terminology and identify the components of the four parts of the policy.
    Assessment Strategies
    By answering a set of questions in Blackboard on insurance terminology and parts of the policy.
    By orally presenting definitions and examples of terms in class.
    By completion of the corresponding pages in the Pre-Licensing Packet.
    Criteria
    Student can communicate examples of general insurance terms.
    Student can identify the components that make up the four parts of the policy.

  3. Identify individual characteristics of an Auto Liability Insurance Policy and Commercial General Liability Insurance Policy.
    Assessment Strategies
    By orally presenting their research findings in class.
    By answering a set of questions in Blackboard regarding Auto and Commercial General Liability Policies as well as insurance terminology.
    By submitting a paragraph regarding their understanding of the material.
    By completion of the corresponding pages in the Pre-Licensing Packet.
    Criteria
    Student researches a casualty policy that would protect the policyholder s assets.
    Student orally presents the results of the research.
    Student's reflection presents insight about the benefits of a specific insurance policy.

  4. Identify individual characteristics of Commercial Lines Casualty Policies and the Personal Lines Umbrella Policy
    Assessment Strategies
    By orally presenting their research findings in class.
    By answering a set of questions in class regarding casualty insurance, terminology, and insurance laws.
    By completion of the corresponding pages in the Pre-Licensing Packet.
    Criteria
    Student researches a casualty policy that would protect the assets of a business.
    Student's reflection presents insight about key points of a casualty insurance policy.
    Student orally presents the results of the research.
