Course Information
Description
Global Studies Abroad cultivates a global mindset, enhances cross-cultural communication skills, and prepares students for international collaboration. Students will explore international business practices with a focus on humanity. This immersive course fosters an understanding of cultural intersections, socio-historical contexts, and global business practices through engagement in diverse environments in N. Ireland & Ireland, Germany, and Wisconsin. Students will participate in an international seminar at partner schools in each country, collaborating in multinational teams from the US, Germany, and N. Ireland. The sister college rotates annually per the Tri-National cycle (see course notes). Students will also visit various businesses and cultural sites. Earn 3 credits, travel internationally, and study with peers worldwide.

  1. Investigate economic, geographic, legal, political, technological, social, cultural and historical environments of host country.

    Criteria
    Describe the historical background of host country
    Explain the business and marketing climate of the host country
    Depict the social and cultural environment in the host country
    You successfully complete the geography quiz for host country

  2. Participate and immerse in cultural environment of host country

    Criteria
    Actively participate in all events and activities during seminar
    Develop effective working relationship with your international group
    Describe the day’s activities and your learning experience or your “AH HA moment”
    Identify connections you are making from this seminar to your academic experience, life, etc.

  3. Examine current business trends/issues involving global business

  4. Practice business management skills to work successfully in the Global Market

  5. Enhance abilities to communicate, work in teams, create, and deliver informational presentations in a cross cultural environment

  6. Build cross-cultural skills by working with students from other countries

    Explain at least three key lessons you learned about the world and global business
    Create a thorough, thoughtful, well written, and insightful examination of what the seminar meant to you
    Photo essay includes five of your photos that, for you, represent the essence of the seminar experience
    Explain why you selected the photos and what they represent
