Description
Gain insights from key leadership experts related to leading oneself, others, and change in organizations. Apply past learned insights and techniques to two simulations, a computerized business and a real-world failing one. Integrate key principles of strategic, financial, marketing and operations management by demonstrating competent managerial problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking. Enhance business perspectives while developing an ability to be a high-integrity, ethical leader.

Course Competencies
  1. Integrate key principles of strategic, financial, marketing and operations management
    Assessment Strategies
    Completing the standard final analysis project based on your results as part of a Mike’s Bikes Multi-Player business simulation class competition
    Criteria
    Analysis utilizes the standard Mike’s Bikes Strategic Review template
    Analysis evidences correct grammar and spelling
    Analysis evidences valid use of data and analytical thinking
    Analysis responses to above criteria earn a minimum of 70% of available points

  2. Demonstrate competent managerial problem solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills
    Assessment Strategies
    Completing the final written report/paper in response to the Rest Well Lodges in-basket simulation
    Criteria
    Simulation response utilizes the standard Rest Well Lodges Final Assignment template
    Simulation response accurately applies key principles from the simulation (identified in class) to a real-world business situation, per the template
    Simulation response evidences correct grammar and spelling
    Simulation responses to above criteria earn a minimum of 70% of available points

  3. Summarize the leadership theories of Kotter, Blanchard, Collins, Chapman, Pollard, Davids, Christensen, Covey, the selected “Self-Interest and Motivation” Bloggers, and Drucker

    Completing the 8/20 Leadership Expert activity
    Completing the final written report/paper in response to the Rest Well Lodges in-basket simulation
    Completing the Covey 8/20 activity
    Criteria
    Activities completed utilizing the standard templates
    Activities and Assignments accurately apply the key principles of the Leadership Experts identified
    Deliverables demonstrate correct grammar and spelling

    Developing written responses to the assigned Covey journal entries and related field work
    Completing the Hotel Ethical Scenarios analysis related to the Rest Well Lodges simulation.
    Criteria
    Journal entries reflect performance of the required fieldwork, per the defined journal entry requirements
    Journal entries effectively address each element of the required journal entries
    Journal entries document growth in self-insight and specific behavioral changes
    The Hotel Ethical Scenarios analysis understanding of, and ability to apply, the Core Values of the Institute of Global Ethics and the Madison Ethical Development Framework
