Course Information
Description
This course provides instruction on the component configuration and operational characteristics of these tractors will be introduced. Students will service and rebuild the axial piston pumps, SCV’s and other components of the hydraulic system. Students will follow the technical manual diagnostic procedures to check out and troubleshoot the hydraulic system.

    Wear steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, long sleeved top, uniform type pants or jeans
    Clothing is not loose or ripped

    Hair is tied back to prevent accident with moving equipment
    Clear shop area for safely raising and supporting vehicle or equipment
    Identify safety items and hazards

  2. Identify the hydraulic flow path(s) of late model hydraulic systems

    Flow test an open center hydraulic system
    Pressure test a closed center hydraulic system

    Criteria
    Use service information to find hydraulic components
    Locate hydraulic system components and attach an I.D. tag to them
    Demonstrate where the components are located

    Describe pressure differential of a load sense system
    Describe a static load sense system
    Describe dynamic load sense system

  6. Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble axial piston pumps
    Assessment Strategies
    Skill demonstration in shop
    Criteria
    Identify components of axial piston pumps
    Inspect axial piston pump components for wear and damage
    Reassemble axial piston pumps according to manufacturer’s specifications
    Test pump on test bench or once reinstalled on machine

  7. Identify, inspect, and service load sense hydraulic control valve assemblies

    Skill demonstration in shop
    Criteria
    Describe types and functions of hydraulic control valve assemblies
    Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble hydraulic control valves
    Test valving where applicable

  8. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair problems of a Load Sense hydraulic system
    Assessment Strategies
    Skill demonstration in shop
    Criteria
    Use technical information to help diagnosis system problem(s)
    Use required tooling to diagnosis Load Sense Hydraulic system problem(s)
    Prescribe a repair to make system functional again
    Test that the repair worked once the repair is complete
